Entangled Kinships in the Sundarbans

A collection of field recordings from the Sundarbans mangrove delta in India

This sound piece is a layered composition that weaves together geophysical and biophysical forces shaping life in the delta. Somehow these forces which shape the formation and evolution of the landscape go unnoticed in the cacophony of human-animal-plant-machine tapestry.

The album provides insight into the region’s ecological dynamics by capturing acoustic variations across restored forest patches, old-growth forests, plantation zones, and human-impacted areas. These recordings reveal shifts in biodiversity, habitat fragmentation, and land-use change, raising questions about whether ecological recovery also restores lost soundscapes.

This piece was originally developed by Lenka Půžová and
Pratyay Raha for the final live performance for the MA
Contemporary Dance, Irish World Academy (University of
Limerick) in August 2022. The performance was a result of a
three months long "stream of consciousness generated
movement improvisation", reflecting the process of
encountering pregnancy for the first time.
