INFRA-TOUCHING
Tactility in the digital age
Group exhibition by António Rego (painting), Pratyay Raha & Tiny Domingos (video performance)
until September 23 2023
INFRA-TOUCHING is an interdisciplinary project that brings together 3 artists to explore the natural need to touch and be touched – tactilely and emotionally – in the digital age. The idea is to extend the Duchampian concept of ‘infra-thin’ (French: infra-mince) to the senses of touch, hearing and smell. With the aim of freeing our attention from the whirlwind of the present, this approach aims to slow down and reinforce intensity through subtraction and micro-perception. An opportunity to move towards a reconnection with the terrestrial condition by awakening the senses and paying new attention to the almost imperceptible breaths, exhalations and friction that surround us, inhabit us and are constitutive of our bodies, our well-being and that of the eco-systems we share.
By painting directly on canvas with his fingers, António Rego establishes a stimulating semantic link between the etymological root of digitality: digitus (the finger) and invites us to return to the essentials: an enjoyment of matter and colours without subterfuge or accessories.
Pratyay Raha and Tiny Domingos will be offering an original performance that is, in itself, an evolutionary search combining ancestral knowledge and new algorithms among cellular echoes and quantum entanglements in an attempt to identify new paths towards emotional and planetary health.
